• How Patience Separates Us

Every week there is a new viral sensation that takes over the internet. They catch our eye with a funny video or a crazy experience. These viral moments have caused an increase of people thinking that winning happens in the short term. In actuality, that person could have been working years, decades or maybe they did just get lucky.

Their luck does not define how all of us will be successful. We can look at their success and break down what worked for them and try to make it work from us. At the end of the day, what works, works. When it’s our time, it’s our time.

I say all of this to say, just because something doesn’t take off as fast as we want, doesn’t meant we’er failing. It’s just not our turn yet. Patience is an underrated character trait. Ideas can be revamped, directions can change, but giving up should never be an option.

Anyone giving 150% into their dream has a chance. Small goals lead to big accomplishments, greatness is building one brick at a time. I truly feel that patience is currently forgotten, and that makes me sad. Oprah wasn’t built in a day, and you won’t be either!

Be the difference, don’t get caught up in fast success, gets obsessed with lasting success. Be the brand that last. Don’t be a one hit wonder. That is the difference, knowing that long term success is worth putting in the time.

Give yourself a chance, put that time in! Your victory is coming, be patient!

The journey to success will always and forever be the best part, so enjoy the road your on and never give up on yourself!

I hope that sharing my experiences and sharing your experiences that we both grow to reach our full potential!

  • Lead in Courage or Run in Fear feat Ryan McMurray

Do you ever just want to try something new? Is there an idea that you’ve had and you cant seem to shake it? Before you know it, your up late at night planning out the details, and researching the options. Then it hits, can you realllllly do this? Self doubt starts growing and growing, and before you know it this idea is a thing of the past.

Giving a new journey a try can be exciting to some and frightening to others. It takes courage to leap out on faith and start something new. It really doesn’t matter if one feels excited or nervous, because at the end of the day making an idea come alive takes faith. Faith that it will be worth your time, faith that your plan will lead you in the right direction, as well as, awareness that of it doesn’t work out it doesn’t mean you have to quit. We can continue to try as many times as we want to make our dreams come true.

The line of going for it or running away from it happens in seconds, made by one decision. A simple thought that leads with courage or runs in fear.

When it comes to taking a chance on ones idea, I thought id reach out to someone who recently had the make such a big decision.

Today I introduce to you Ryan McMurray, he recently made the decision to move forward with starting a company called Gymspiration which is a comprehensive fitness evaluation program for amateur athletes. I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions to get an idea of how he was able to take that leap of faith and turn his idea into a business.

    How do you define Gymspiration?
I’m positioning Gymspiration as a society for individuals devoted to fitness/wellness. I want people that engage me for services to feel like a part of a group who are interested in seeing each other improve.

What was the final straw that made you open Gymspiration?
No single epiphany I can point to. Just the daily grind at somebody else’s company wearing on me. I’ve been at my day job for 10+ years doing something I’m not truly interested in. There are things that I enjoy about my work but I wouldn’t be doing it for free. I like helping people set, reach, and surpass their goals and I l enjoy the fitness industry. The hope is that Gymspiration will eventually allow me to focus on that full time.

How do you maximize your time to incorporate Gymspiration?
At this point, I don’t do a very good job of it. I have the luxury of not needing profit right away and I built Gymspiration to be a long term side business with low ongoing overhead. All of my investment was upfront; equipment, web design, graphic design, merchandising, etc. Work/Life balance is of the utmost importance to me so I try not to let many things stress me out. At this point, while I still hold a 9-5 job, I’m just trying to meet people, establish a presence, and gain experience.

What has been the pros and cons of taking your idea to the next level?
It is a source of pride but comes with a lot of work and pressure.

What have you learned about yourself at this early stage of building your idea?
    I love branding and merchandising.

Is there anything you could have done better before taking the jump to start Gymspiration?
The only thing I could do is drastically change my life by quitting my full time job and committing 100% to Gymspiration. I’m have a hard time mentally justifying that until I start to see some sort of consistent $$ coming in.

What advice do you have for others that are thinking about taking the jump to start there our business?
Make a plan, stick to timelines, be realistic.

What are you hoping Gymspiration can accomplish?
Fantastic question that I don’t really know I ever considered. I suppose for me it is a means to live a bit more on my own terms. For others, I want Gymspiration to be a motivation to push towards their greatest self. Ultimate long goal would be to have an actual fitness/sport facility that can host league play and/or team practice.

There is so many of us that are doing the daily grind, I hope Ryan can be an example that you too can go for it!

  • Sip and Dream Inc – Summer Soiree

How do we stay motivated? This is a question I often receive. The truth is motivation is a lifestyle. The books  we read, the shows we watch and the events that we attend all effect how motivated we can be.

At least once a month it’s important to attend an event that’s sole purpose is to encourage, inspire and motivate others.

This past weekend I attended the Summer Soiree event by Sip and Dream Inc, and not only was it encouraging, inspiring and motivating, but they also gave tools and recommendations on business, branding & life.

The founder of Sip and Dream, Chiana Jenell, started the networking event as a hobby that has now turned into a “full-blown company producing empowerment, business, and networking events throughout Los Angeles.” Chiana states that her goal is to help as many people as she can bring their dreams to life. It was very obvious in Chiana’s mannerism that she cared deeply about the woman attending the event by greeting every guest and openly conversing with everyone. She created an authentic safe place for everyone to be themselves.

The event started with painting powerful messages on pink canvasses from Baby Ink Bizz, which was something I was really looking forward to doing. You can see my drawing below, don’t judge me, I tried. Lol

Next, we had an ice breaker opportunity where we got out of our seats and walked around the area and introduced ourselves to each other. It was nice to get to say hi to each individual personally with an added hug or hand shake. From there we did formal introductions where we stood up, said our names, and shared the type of industry we work in.

Then the really good stuff started!!! The two guest speakers were Nichole Lynel & Austin Belisle.

Nichole Lynel is a mogul in the making; she can take her idea and bring it to life. Nichole is mostly known as one of the owners of House of Chic, an online clothing boutique, but she has now added many titles to her name, which include; a motivational speaker, clothing designer and consultant to many young girls around the world.

But it wasn’t always that way, at the Sip and Dream event Nichole shared that when she was 30 years old as a cocktail waitress she made the decision. A decision that she knew that one day she was going to have to make. She quit her job as a waitress and went after her true passion which is fashion. The first year the online boutique, House of Chic made a million dollars. Nichole shared that what lead to the store to have major success was “Amazing content consistently.” She recommends using social media has a driving force for ones business. Stating that we can use social media to tell a story that can increase others engagement into our business.

Nichole was very relatable and honest with her business experiences. I found her honesty to not only be inspiring, but motivated me to take her advice. Nichole has proven that if we put consistent actions behind our ideas then we too can achieve success.

Austin Belisle, who I have named as “The Game Changer,” is a graphic/web designer and creative director for one of the top design agencies in the world, Verge Collective. He specializes in helping establish businesses and start-ups with the purpose of bringing their vision to life. Austin also started his own design agency specifically to help smaller business look more professional.

I had the opportunity to seat down with Austin and go more in depth about the tools his agency provides. When it comes to designing ones brand, Austin states that we should have a clear view of who our consumer is. That we should know exactly who our client is so that we can specifically design with the client in mind. With the need for consistency on social media, Austin also provides visuals for his clients for the whole month, which allows that client to publish consistent content online.

When it comes to growing your brand, Austin recommended taking a competitive analysis of your competition, obtaining feedback from the consumer and to be completely emerged into your industry. Following theses tips allows one to stay on track for creating the best fit visuals for the brand and the client.

Austin perspective on branding was very refreshing and easy to adapt to. I found his suggestions to make me think deeper into the visuals that my business provides and how I too can use visuals to connect with my clients.

One of my favorite parts about the Sip and Dream event was that it was designed to be a more intimate event. There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of people which really allowed the guest to connect and network without feeling pressured to meet a lot of people. The guests were open about the different struggles which really allowed all of us to learn a variety of solutions to business struggles.

I can’t wait to go to the next Sip and Dream event!!!!

  • Fighting for Our Purpose Feat. Alexandria Greenwood

The one thing I know for sure is that we can’t hide or run from our purpose. No matter how hard we try, life will always bring us full circle to our purpose.

I believe this happens because each step in our lives are connected.

Some of us will find a new way to achieve our purpose, some of us will give up and some of us will keep doing the same actions and receiving the same outcome.

Alexandria Greenwood, the owner of Intuition.LA, recently opened up to us about how she responded to facing the difficult decision of closing and reopening her online jewelry store.

Why did you close your first online store?
Alexandria : I was scared. I lost my reg job and was fearful of going under.

What made you open another online store?
Alexandria: I could never let the dream go, it stayed with me and became stronger! I had to.

What obstacles do you face as on online jewelry store?
Alexandria: Marketing especially in this time. Everybody with 5k opens a store, but everyone doesn’t knows what they’re talking about.

Do you believe your living your purpose?
Alexandria: Yes I believe I am living my authentic life. Fashion jewelry/Accessories are really my heart. I love clothing but jewelry and accessories make me happy. I know a lot of women either over do it or don’t get it! I want to spread the love! Teach women to be ok with them.

What personal characteristics did you gain by going through the process of closing and re-opening an online jewelry store?
Alexandria:  Humility and patience. My biggest realization is that I really love it. I pray to be able to just work and live, but my dream stayed! My dream grew.

What advice would you have for anyone opening an online store?                      Alexandria: Make sure you love it! Make sure you want it. Be ready to fight!

The want to give up is part of the process. We are human.

We must remind ourselves that we rather fight for our dreams than to live wondering what would have happen if we chased our dreams.

  • How Your Past Can Help Your Future

It can be hard to find a career that works best for you. The good news is,…life is always preparing us for whats next!

So today I want to encourage to look into your past.

    1. In the last 2-3 years what are the circumstances that you’ve overcame?

    2. What skills did you improve or receieve from overcoming that circumstance?

I ask these questions because the answers to them can help your personal direction.

You may start to realize that the characteristics that you’ve gained over the past 2-3 years will give you the confidence to go after what your heart truly wants to do. It can also bring light to a career that you’ve never considered.

For Example, In the past 2 years if your long time relationship ended, you have your own place, and started a new job, Then you’ve learned the value of independence. It may be a good time to ask yourself how far do you want this independence to go. Do you want to open your own business? Or maybe this is as far as independent you want to go, and maybe open a partnership or not open any business.

Its best to evaluate where we are and take advantage of knowing our new skills so that we can continue to build our dreams.

I hope that sharing my experiences and sharing your experiences that we both grow to reach our full potential!

  • Just In Time

Being a blogger for the past three years comes with its list of pros and cons. Most people are confused on what a blogger is, and most of the time I have to explain how it all works.

There are plenty of articles explaining how bloggers can make a lot of money with ads and sponsorships. But, most of us are not in it for the money; the majority of bloggers write with the pure intention of sharing information we are passionate about.

We just want to share our experiences, get feedback, and inspire a few people along the way. We never expect any recognition.

So, when I found out that one of my readers nominated me for a trail blazer award, held by Center Link, I had to catch my breath!

I thought it was a joke, I thought someone was playing a game on me. Me? Me? Nominated for a Trail Blazer award? I instantly felt humbled that someone could feel that way about my blog,… I started to tear up.

I truly love this blog, I love how connected it has brought me to you guys. I appreciate the time you take to read each post, and just when I feel like maybe I should throw in the towel, you guys always find a way to inspire me. From the emails of how a post encouraged you, to now being nominated for an award. You guys always seem to give me the push I need to keep going as a blogger.

    Thank you!!!!!!!

At times you may question the path you’re on. Just know that life always gives us a reason to keep going, even in the moments when we think about giving up.

  • Connecting The Dots

Just when life starts to feel amazing! Something always seems to get in the way. We can sit here and say its just life taking us to the next level, but what if we don’t feel like going to the next level? What if we’re happy with where we are,…

To be honest, I often feel this way. Once I’m in a very secure place, life is just like BOOM! Out of no where, I’m hit with something soooo unexpected.

In these moments I would choose to stay calm, and find a moment to myself to re group.

But recently I came across a quote that has completely changed my way of thinking in theses “BOOM” moments.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Steve Jobs

Completely mind blowing! Steve Jobs hit it right on the nail!

When we’re hit with the “BOOM” moments, remind ourselves that we can’t connect the dots going forward, we can only trust our, “gut, destiny, karma, (or) whatever.”

We can be reassured by connecting the dots in the past that the dots in the future will some how connect. So, the next time your life is hit with a “BOOM,” know that some how, some way, this moment is a dot that helps your future connect.

I hope that sharing my experiences and sharing your experiences that we both grow to reach our full potential!

  • The Truth About Self Growth

The funny thing about life is we find ourselves always wanting to do better, and reach higher. But once we obtain these opportunities to take our lives to the next level, we start to feel overwhelmed and have the urge to remove some of these responsibilities.

Im here to tell you that, that feeling of being overwhelmed, is just life telling us to rebalance our lifestyle.

Every time we grow, we must rebalance our lifestyle. We simply can’t take old ways into new growth.

For example, If you’re a full time student and decide to pick up a part-time job, you would have to adjust your sleeping pattern, and schedule study/homework time. The nights you use to study may turn into working nights, and the lunches you use to nap might turn into time to study. One would have to change their schedule to work with their new growth. Failure to change ones schedule will only increase that overwhelming feeling.

When people say they don’t like change, the truth is they don’t like having to rebalance their lifestyle.

Being aware that growth comes with rebalancing our lives helps us prepare for growth. The next time you get an opportunity to grow; make sure to look at your schedule and rearrange your time, so you can make an easier transition.

I hope that sharing my experiences and sharing your experiences that we both grow to reach our full potential!
